Safe mode is a great tool for troubleshooting potential issues with your Samsung smartphone, helping you pinpoint the cause of any slowness or crashes with your device. Once you’ve resolved any problems with slowness or crashing, disable safe mode and return the Android operating system to its default working condition. Here’s how to turn off Safe Mode on Samsung devices.

  • Turn off Safe mode: Hold and press the Power button, tap Restart, and select Restart again.Turn on Safe mode: Press and hold the Power button, tap and hold Power off, and select Safe mode when it appears.Confirm Safe mode status: Look for the Safe mode icon in the lower-left corner of the screen to show whether it’s on or off.

How to Get Out of Safe Mode

Turning safe mode off on your Samsung phone is a fairly straightforward process.

  • Press and hold the Power button, typically located on the right-hand side of your Samsung smartphone.
  • Let go of the Power button when the screen shown below appears and tap Restart.
  • Tap Restart a second time.
  • Your phone will now reboot into standard mode. To confirm you are no longer in safe mode, look in the lower left-hand corner of the screen and ensure that no “Safe mode” indicator is displayed.

What Is Safe Mode and Why Is It Used?

Like most operating systems, Android launches several apps as part of its boot process. These third-party offerings can include commonly-used features like displaying your personal calendar or unread email messages.

Let go of the Power button when the screen shown below appears and tap Restart.

Tap Restart a second time.

Your phone will now reboot into standard mode. To confirm you are no longer in safe mode, look in the lower left-hand corner of the screen and ensure that no “Safe mode” indicator is displayed.

If you’re experiencing significant slowness or other problems while starting up your phone, one or more of these apps could be the culprit. Launching in safe mode can help narrow down the cause of your device’s problems. 

For example, if you do not experience the same slowness in safe mode, then you can assume the issues are in fact software-related and are not being caused by the phone’s actual hardware. 

How to Turn Safe Mode Back On

If you’d like to re-enable safe mode at any point, follow the steps below.

  • Press and hold the Power button, typically located on the right-hand side of your Samsung smartphone.
  • A screen like the one shown in the accompanying screenshot should appear after a couple of seconds. You can let go of the Power button at this point.
  • Tap and hold Power off.
  • Tap Safe mode.
  • If the Safe mode option does not appear, return to the previous screen and make sure that you are tapping and holding the Power off button until it is displayed. If you tap it and let go beforehand, you’ll instead be presented with another Power off button.
  • Your phone will now reboot into safe mode. This can be confirmed by the “Safe mode” indicator shown in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.

Tap Safe mode.

If the Safe mode option does not appear, return to the previous screen and make sure that you are tapping and holding the Power off button until it is displayed. If you tap it and let go beforehand, you’ll instead be presented with another Power off button.

Your phone will now reboot into safe mode. This can be confirmed by the “Safe mode” indicator shown in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.
