Automatic Updates for Google Chrome on Mac or PC

By default, Google Chrome on Mac and PC updates automatically. The web browser is continually checking for the latest version to download. Typically, you only have to restart Chrome to install the update. The More icon in the upper right corner (the three dots) will say Update and then when you press it, it turns into a colored arrow when there’s a pending update and you haven’t closed your browser window in a while. The color of the arrow indicates how long the update has been available: 

  • Green arrow: An update has been available for the last two days.Orange arrow: An update has been available for the last four days.Red arrow: An update has been available for the last seven days.

To install the latest Chrome update, quit Chrome and relaunch it or select the arrow icon, followed by Update Google Chrome > Relaunch.

Manually Update Google Chrome on Mac or PC

If you want to manually check to see whether there’s an update to your Chrome browser, here’s how to find out:
