If you haven’t updated Instagram yet, do it now. You are in for a treat as Instagram now supports video sharing. While taking pictures you will also get a movie camera icon to enter video mode. Instagram lets you take up to 15 seconds of video and then you can select from thirteen filters to add effects to your video. Another feature is the cover image- you can select your best image from the video you’ve recorded as your cover image. This seems simple. However, after this update, many Instagram users complained that they can’t find the “Instagram video camera icon”. Note that you will need at least Jellybean 4.1 for the video recording to work.  Some users won’t find the camera because their Instagram app takes picture using the stock or default android camera. Here are simple steps to enable Instagram camera on android or ios:

  • Go to your profile by clicking the rightmost icon at the bottom of the screen
  • From your profile, go to options by clicking the rightmost icon at the top of the screen
  • Go to advanced features and click on “use Instagram’s Advanced Camera”

Now you when you click the camera on your Instagram, you will  also see a video camera icon or button at the right. Click it to record Instagram video.

UPDATE: It is reported that Instagram users uploaded 5 million clips on the very first day that the Instagram Video mode was activated. Looks like an intense Vine VS Instagram war in the coming days. Vine’s currently has 13 million users.

  • Hi Kendrick,

  • Make sure that “Instagram advance camera” is checked. You might have unchecked it by accident. After doing that you can use Instagram’s in-app camera to take videos. Also make sure you have updated to the latest version of Instagram.

  • Hi Tracy,

  • Unfortunately, it looks like you have an older android operating system that does not support instagram video recording. You will need at least Jellybean 4.1. Instagram might come with new updates that will enable recording for older OS. We’ll have to wait and see.
