This article explains how to watch Marvel movies either in chronological order or in order of release. It covers core Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies connected to the overall Avengers storyline, starting with Iron Man.

What to Know

Watch Marvel Movies in Chronological Order

Want to watch the movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the order that the story takes place in the world of the characters? Then here’s the order you should follow.

This chronology also includes miniseries in the MCU, which are exclusive to Disney+ and also affect the events of the movies. It does not include What If…?, which takes place in other parts of the multiverse, nor does it include series that premiered on Netflix (Daredevil, The Punisher, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and The Defenders). Miniseries titles are in bold below.

Watch Marvel Movies in Order of Release

Prefer to watch Marvel movies in release order, just like those of us who went to the theater to see them? Then here’s the order you should follow.

Marvel Movies, Phase 1

Marvel Movies, Phase 2

Marvel Movies, Phase 3

Marvel Movies and TV, Phase 4

The first three phases of the MCU, which follows the creation and breakup of the Avengers, Thanos’ hunt for the Infinity Stones, and his eventual defeat, are collectively called “The Infinity Saga.” Phases 4 through 6 will be “The Multiverse Saga,” which includes familiar heroes meeting their counterparts from parallel dimensions.

Phase 4 deals with the aftermath of “The Blip” and introduces new characters including Ms. Marvel, Shang-Chi, and Moon Knight. Along with movies, the new saga includes miniseries that are exclusive to the Disney+ streaming service (in bold below).

Marvel Movies and TV, Phase 5

Phase 5 will introduce the MCU’s new Thanos-level villain, Kang the Conqueror, who will drive the major story arcs through both Phase 5 and Phase 6. More miniseries are coming, and they’re in bold below.

Marvel Movies and TV, Phase 6

We don’t know much about Phase 6, which will wrap up the Multiverse Saga. It will include two more Avengers films and the film return of Marvel’s “first family,” the Fantastic Four, along with Hugh Jackman’s return to the role of Wolverine in Deadpool 3.

Pre-MCU Marvel movies, like Spider-Man (either the Toby McGuire or Andrew Garfield versions) aren’t included in this article, and neither are the Spider-Man spinoffs that don’t cross over with the MCU, like Venom, Morbius, or Into the Spider-verse.
