IDC’s latest report on smartphone shipment for the second quarter of 2013 (2Q13) shows Android and Windows phone growing in global shipment whereas Apple experienced a year on year decline. However, researchers believe Apple will increase their sales with the release of new products this year.
In 2Q13, 236 million smarphones were shipped compared to 156.2 million units on the same quarter last year. Whereas, compared to the 1Q13 the growth was 9.3%.
Out of the total shipments, 79.3% were Android devices and 13.2% were iOS devices. Looks like Blackberry OS lost its share to Windows, Widows mobile OS now holds 8.7% share compared to Blackberry OS’s 6.8%. Researchers, attribute Window’s growth to Nokia. According to the report, Nokia accounted for over 81% of all windows smartphone shipped in 2Q13. While Samsung is the second largest seller of Windows phone with 11% share of shipment.
Among Android Smartphone vendors, Samsung is at the top with 73.3% share while rest of the vendors comes nowhere close. Competition is even tougher for the second place. Currently, LG is the second largest Android smartphone seller with 12.1% share of shipments; Chinese companies Lenovo, Huawei and ZTE come very close with 11.4%, 10.2% and 10.2% shares respectively.
