The Chrome profile manager allows you to set up multiple user accounts for the Google Chrome browser on Windows 10. This way, each person who uses your computer can have their own individual settings, bookmarks, and themes. You can even connect your Chrome account with your Google account to sync bookmarks and apps across multiple devices.

How to Add Google Chrome Users on Windows

To set up a new user profile in Google Chrome for Windows:

This article’s information applies to Windows 10, 8, and 7. You can also manage multiple Chrome accounts on a Mac.

  • Select the Profile icon in the top-right corner of Chrome and choose Manage people.
  • Select Add person.
  • Enter a name, choose a profile icon, and select Add.
  • Check the box beside Create a desktop shortcut for this user for the option of launching directly into the user’s browsing session at any time.
  • A new browsing session will open for the user you just created. Select Get Started to set up user preferences, or sign in to a Google Account to automatically sync settings and preferences.

Handling Multiple Users in Chrome

After you’ve added multiple users to Chrome, when you select the Profile icon, you’ll see the other users listed. Select a user to switch between browsing sessions.

Select the Profile icon in the top-right corner of Chrome and choose Manage people.

Select Add person.

Enter a name, choose a profile icon, and select Add.

Check the box beside Create a desktop shortcut for this user for the option of launching directly into the user’s browsing session at any time.

A new browsing session will open for the user you just created. Select Get Started to set up user preferences, or sign in to a Google Account to automatically sync settings and preferences.

To change individual user settings, select the three vertical dots in the top-right corner of Chrome, and choose Settings. Any browser settings a user modifies, such as installing a new theme, will be saved locally for their profile only. These settings also can be saved server-side and synced with your Google Account.

How to Remove Google Chrome Users on Windows

To delete a Chrome user from your PC:

It’s possible to set up parental controls in Chrome by creating a supervised profile.

  • Select the Profile icon in the top-right corner of Chrome and choose Manage people.
  • Hover your mouse over the icon for the user you want to remove, and then select the three vertical dots that appear in the top-right corner.
  • Select Remove this person.

How to Connect a Chrome Profile to a Google Account

If you didn’t connect a Google account while setting up a Chrome user profile, you can always do so later. Open a browsing session as the user and select Profile > Turn on Sync to sign in or create a new Google account.

Hover your mouse over the icon for the user you want to remove, and then select the three vertical dots that appear in the top-right corner.

Select Remove this person.

How to Manage Sync Settings for Chrome Users

To specify which items get synced to your Google Account each time you sign in to the browser:

  • Select the three vertical dots in the top-right corner of Chrome and choose Settings.
  • Select Sync and Google Services.
  • From here, you can manage your sync settings. Select Turn off to disable syncing altogether, or select Manage sync to toggle which items get synced.
  • There’s also an option to encrypt all of your synced data, not just your passwords, or even create your own encryption passphrase instead of your Google Account password.
