AMD devices have been plagued by performance issues after updating to Microsoft’s latest and greatest operating system, Windows 11, but help is on the way.
As reported by Tech Advisor, Microsoft just released a patch for Windows 11 that addresses performance issues caused by running the operating system on an AMD Ryzen device. Users had reported significant increases in cache latency, leading to a performance decline of 3-15%, depending on the device and the game or software being used.
This issue seemed to primarily impact CPU-intensive computer games, such as eSports titles, and any tasks that rely heavily on the CPU.
Microsoft recommends AMD Ryzen users download and install the patch immediately, but the process is not without obstacles. As of now, the patch is only available to members of the Windows Insider Program.
In other words, it is essentially still in beta. Signing up for the Windows Insider service is not terribly complicated, but does require registration while using the impacted device. A final patch for all users should be available by the end of the month.
The patch is called Windows 11 Build 22000.282, and it goes above and beyond AMD Ryzen performance issues. It also addresses the problem of a missing taskbar and fixes several unrelated problems, including the appearance of unexplained error messages.
