Microsoft rolls out a preview version of the revamped Bing Maps app for Windows 8.1 with features the company plans to merge into its current Maps app. According to Microsoft the app was completely rebuilt from scratch to offer clarity, details, and more mapping features that should be expected on a modern app. In this preview version of Bing Maps, the software maker has added notifications features, Live Tile, and Snap View support in Windows 8.1.

One of the new features early testers will notice in the new Bing Maps is StreetSide, which is a feature that allows you not to lose perspective of the surrounding landscape with a “bubble view” that dynamically rotates as you turn the map.

Bing Maps preview for Windows 8.1 also brings Local Scout, which is a discovery feature for places of interest like nearby shops and restaurants. You can also see real-time traffic via toast notifications or in the Live Tile. And the preview also has a new traffic alert feature that will offer alerts of saved route at specific time of the day.

All the navigation controls are located in the left-side of the screen, like you would expect on any map, and it also includes a visible search-box in the top-right corner for easy access to search different places — This is identical to what you find now on differents Windows 8.1 apps and in the Start screen Apps view.

The new Bing Maps is available now from the Windows Store on Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1. Just remember this is a preview as such glitches and errors will occur, so you’ve been warned!
