Previously we learned that Microsoft was renaming SkyDrive to OneDrive after losing dispute with the British broadcasting company “Sky”. But that’s not all, now it also appears that with the new name, new perks are also coming… New report from LiveSide claims that OneDrive will also offer up to 8GB of additional cloud storage when completing specific requirements. First a referral program will award users up to 5GB of extra free storage. Of course, users won’t get the 5GB in one time, instead each time users refer a friend to OneDrive and they sign up, the user and his friend will get 500MB, all up to a maximum of 10 times; very similar to what Dropbox has been doing for quite sometime.
Furthermore, another bonus of 3GB will be awarded for those using the camera roll to backup photos using Windows Phone, Android, or iOS app. And if you’re wondering the 8GB of extra storage is yours to keep for life in addition to your current cloud storage capacity.
This is not all, Microsoft is also rumored to include a co-worker folder feature for its newly rebranded OneDrive to allow users to share and edit folders in the cloud. Also folders where you were added a co-owner will sync across PCs as if they were your files, and you can also share this files and folders with other individuals too.
Microsoft has to officially talk about the changes, I’ll be updating this article as new information becomes available.
